Doctors & Staff

Meet Dr. Royal, O.D. and Dr. Martin, O.D. along with their staff who strive to make Family Eye Care of Toccoa the leading provider of vision care products and services in Toccoa.


Kay Royal, O.D.

Dr. Royal is a graduate of Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN.

A proud University of Georgia alumni, she remains an avid bulldog fan today. Dr. Royal opened her practice in Toccoa in 1994.  In March of 2007, she purchased and renovated the McBath home in historic downtown Toccoa for her practice. She is proud to offer modern technology in the comfort of this charming old house. Dr. Royal is active in her community serving on the board of directors for both the Toccoa Lions Club and the Open Arms Clinic, a free medical clinic for the uninsured. She is also active in her profession, serving as the President of the Georgia State Board of Optometry from 2001 through 2010 while having continued membership in the Georgia Optometric Association and American Optometric Association.  She is an avid cyclist and enjoys hiking and spending time outdoors.


Lindsay Martin, O.D.

Dr. Martin is a graduate of Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN.  She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from North Georgia College & State University in Dahlonega, GA.

We welcomed Dr. Martin to the practice in June of 2016. She has experience with Comprehensive and Problem-focused Eye Examinations. She has extensive training in diagnosing and treating ocular disease. Dr. Martin brings to us years of experience in pediatrics, geriatric eye care, vision therapy, specialized contact lens fittings, and low vision.

Dr. Martin and her husband reside in Lavonia, GA. She enjoys spending time with her family, is very active in her church, and loves being outdoors.


Norma Walters

Optical Technician and Fashion Consultant.

Norma has been an optical technician with Dr. Royal since 1995. She loves working with people and is the heart of the practice. She has extensive knowledge of current technology in eyewear and is passionate about meeting the visual needs of our patients. All of this in addition to her unequivocal fashion sense make for a great experience.


Deana Bell

Ophthalmic Technician, Contact Lens Specialist

Deana has many years of experience as an ophthalmic technician and is a huge asset to the practice. She will perform your Preliminary Examination and obtain your medical history for the doctor. Deana can answer most questions regarding your exam or contact lens. She will also assist you with your prescription refill needs.


Melissa Ottaway

Accounts Receivable, Marketing  and Optical Consultant

Melissa can assist you with insurance filing and is the one to contact with questions regarding your statement.  She can also help you with finding the perfect pair of glasses to meet your needs. Her extensive training and experience in our Optical will ensure that you have the most functional and fashionable glasses designed just for you!


Terria Mayweather

Patient Care Coordinator

Terria is your first contact when calling the office or stopping by.  She can answer your initial questions and make you feel at home. Terria has knowledge of all insurance plans that our office participates in and is eager to help you with scheduling your exam today! Whether you’re on the phone or in the office, Terria’s smile is contagious!


Dylan Chitwood

Dylan is a graduate of Ogeechee Technical College with a degree in Opticianry. He is a Licensed Dispensing Optician and is ABO and NCLE certified. Dylan is anxious to meet you and help fit you in the perfect pair of glasses! He enjoys hiking, biking and traveling. This man  has an eye for photography also!


Kayla Godfrey

Certified Medical Assistant

Kayla has many years of experience as a Certified Medical Assistant. She will perform your Preliminary Examination and obtain your medical history for the doctor. Kayla can answer most questions regarding your exam or contact lens. She will also assist you with your prescription refill needs. Kayla is from Lavonia and graduated from North Georgia Technical College. Kayla enjoys camping and spending time with her husband and her dogs.
